Daily Body Lotion

A body lotion is doing three jobs in one bottle: humectants pull in water, emollients fill the gaps between skin cells, and occlusives slow the water loss. Apply it to skin that's still damp from the shower, and it traps that surface water right where you want it, then reinforces the barrier over all the real estate your face routine completely ignores. Arms, legs, back, and torso. The whole rest of you deserves the same attention.

Why it works

Daily whole-body moisturizing is one of the best-established steps in all of skincare for cutting dryness, flaking, and itch, and for building a barrier that holds up. Timing is everything here: the effect is strongest within a few minutes of towel-drying, while skin is still damp. That's the window where it locks in the most water.

How to use it

  1. Pat skin dry, don't fully dry it. Damp is the goal after your shower.
  2. Apply a generous layer over your whole body within about three minutes. That's the window that traps water.
  3. Give extra to the driest zones: shins, elbows, knees, forearms.
  4. Reapply to hands after every wash, and before bed when the air turns dry.
  5. Reactive or itchy skin? Fragrance-free is the only option on the table.

Smooth a generous layer over the whole body within about three minutes of towel-drying, focusing on shins, elbows, and anywhere that feels tight; reapply to hands through the day.

For men: The fastest full-body upgrade you're not doing: one pump of unscented lotion on damp skin, right after the shower. Shins and forearms go ashy and rough first in winter, so start there.
