Privacy

We do not have your data.

No account to make, no cookie to accept, no analytics watching where you go. What you write stays on the device you wrote it on, and this page says exactly what that means and where the edges are.

What we collect

Nothing.

There is no sign-up, no login, no newsletter box, and no contact form. There is nowhere on this site to type your name or your email, so there is nothing for us to have. We could not send you an email if we wanted to.

What your device holds

Six things, in your browser's own local storage. They sit on your device, they are readable only by this site in this browser, and none of them is ever transmitted.

Your check-in aiw-journal-v1
The daily levels: sleep, mood, stress, energy, food, and hours slept. Written on this device as you go and sent nowhere.
Your journal aiw-journal-entries-v1
Everything you write on the journal pages, with any notes you add to old entries. Same arrangement: on the device, ours to never see.
Your plan pc_plan
What the planner has you doing, and any recipe you added from the Kitchen. Same arrangement: on the device, ours to never see.
Light or dark aiw-theme
Which of the two you picked, so the next page does not arrive in the wrong one.
Your paper colour aiw-tint
The tint you picked for the journal paper, if you picked one.
Your palette aiw-palette
Which of the nine palettes the quiz read you as, kept only if you pressed the button asking the journal to write on it. The quiz stores nothing else, and your answers are never kept at all.

Clearing your browsing data erases all three, and so does a new device, a new browser, or a private window closing. That is the honest cost of holding nothing on our side.

Back your journal up yourself

Because we keep no copy, there is no copy. If your phone goes in a lake, the journal goes with it, and we cannot restore it for you. So please export it, and keep the export somewhere that backs itself up.

  1. Open the journal and press Export.
  2. In the app, iOS offers you Files. Choose iCloud Drive and it is backed up from that moment on. In a browser it downloads, and you can move it into iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or wherever you keep things that matter.
  3. To bring it back, on this device or a new one, press Import and pick the file. Importing merges rather than replaces, so a partial export cannot wipe a fuller journal.

Doing that once a month is enough for most people. The file is plain and readable, which also means it is yours in a way an account on somebody's server never quite is.

Where the edges are

Two places where something leaves your device, and one that no longer does. We would rather name them than let the paragraphs above imply more than they should.

Our host
The pages are served by Cloudflare. Like any web server, it records the usual request information, including your IP address, in its own logs. We do not build anything on top of that, do not join it to anything, and do not look at it to profile anyone.
No third parties on the page
Every page is served whole from our own origin, typefaces included. Loading a page here contacts nobody else: no font service, no CDN script, no embedded anything. The site's Content-Security-Policy enforces this rather than promising it.
Links you choose to follow
Product links go to Amazon and carry our Associates tag, so Amazon knows the visit came from here and we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. What you then do on Amazon is between you and Amazon; we are told nothing about it beyond what any Associate sees, which is a commission figure with no names attached. Research citations go to PubMed, the FDA, and similar. Nothing is sent to any of them until you click.

The site's Content-Security-Policy is set so the page cannot talk to anywhere else even if something tried. Search runs entirely in your browser against a file it downloads, so what you search for is never a request to anybody.

In the app

The iOS app carries the whole site inside it and loads from the bundle rather than the network, so most pages involve no request at all. Two things there are worth stating plainly.

Apple Health
The journal can read how long you slept, and only that, and only after you grant permission in the iOS dialog. The figure goes straight into the journal's local storage on your device. It is not sent anywhere, and the app never writes anything back to Health. You can withdraw permission at any time in Settings, under Privacy and Security, then Health.
The evening reminder
If you turn it on, one notification a day asks how today was, at a time you chose. It is scheduled on your phone by your phone, using the standard iOS notification system. Nothing about it touches a server, and turning it off removes it entirely.
Sharing
The share button opens the standard iOS share sheet with a public link to the page you were reading. Where it goes from there is your choice, and we are not part of it.

Children

This is a general-audience site written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, which makes the usual promise here an easy one to keep.

Your rights

Rules like the GDPR and the CCPA give you the right to see, correct, export, and delete what a company holds about you. We hold nothing about you, so there is nothing to request and nobody to ask. Your journal is already in your hands: the export button is the access right and the erase button is the deletion right, and neither needs our permission or our help.

If this changes

Any change that affects what leaves your device gets written here at the same time it ships, with the date at the top moved on. If we ever add something that genuinely collects data, it will be described here in plain words before it is switched on.
