Citrus and Orange-Segment Yogurt Parfait with Toasted Seeds
A quick afternoon parfait of Greek yogurt layered with fresh orange segments, a spoonful of berries, and a crunch of toasted sunflower and hemp seeds. Folate, protein, and antioxidants, in the time it takes to layer a glass.
Why it works
Citrus segments are a rare naturally folate-rich fruit, and folate is the single best-supported nutrient in preconception nutrition for reducing neural-tube-defect risk once pregnancy begins. The Greek yogurt brings full-fat dairy and protein tied to reproductive health in some cohorts, the seeds add vitamin E and zinc, and the live cultures support a gut microbiome that increasingly looks connected to hormonal balance.
This is anchored in folate's well-established preconception role in public-health guidance, plus dairy findings from the Nurses' Health Study II. The microbiome-hormone link is emerging, not yet definitive, and dietary folate alone rarely reaches the level clinicians target with supplements.
